Project Overview
Enterprise Solutions delivered full electrical design and construction for the HCA Healthcare Veterinary Center at the Nashville Zoo, a 23,677 sq ft, state-of-the-art veterinary facility designed for animals of all sizes and certified LEED Silver for sustainable operations. The project required sensitive, resilient systems to support advanced medical care, animal handling, and public viewing.
Our scope included:
- Complete power distribution and main switchgear coordination
- LED lighting and centralized, wireless lighting controls tailored for animal sensitivities
- Emergency safety controls for secure animal egress and handler protection during transport and treatment
- Lighting, power, and data for surgical suites (OR, ICU, nursery), imaging, lab, pharmacy, classrooms, and public observation areas
Key project approaches and challenges:
- Controls-driven design: Building controls enabled customizable lighting scenes to accommodate species-specific needs and supported LEED Silver energy requirements.
- Schedule-driven sequencing: We staged and safeguarded main switchgear installation prior to roof completion to maintain the critical path despite structural and weather constraints.
- Constructability solutions: CMU construction and strict concealment requirements in critical animal areas demanded precise coordination and prefabricated rough-in assemblies to avoid exposed piping and maintain aesthetics and safety.
- Field coordination: Careful handling and installation procedures were used for specialty donated fixtures in the lobby and fragile assemblies in public areas.
Enterprise Solutions’ tailored electrical systems and controls helped deliver a secure, efficient, and visitor-ready veterinary center that advances animal care, staff safety, and sustainable operation at the Nashville Zoo.
