What Is Integrated Design & Manufacturing?
At Enterprise Solutions, the way we design and build is continuing to evolve. As projects become larger, more complex, and increasingly schedule-driven, traditional handoffs between design, coordination, fabrication, and field installation can create unnecessary gaps.
Integrated Design & Manufacturing, or IDM, is our approach to closing those gaps.
IDM is the intentional alignment of virtual design, detailed engineering, and physical fabrication into one continuous process. Rather than treating design, coordination, and manufacturing as separate stages of a project, IDM brings them together under a single strategy. It connects what is designed digitally with what is ultimately manufactured and installed in the field.
Bringing VDC and Prefabrication Together
Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and prefabrication are both powerful capabilities on their own. Their greatest value, however, comes when they operate as one connected system.
Our VDC teams develop coordinated, fabrication-ready models and the detailed information required to manufacture assemblies accurately. Our prefabrication teams then transform that information into repeatable, high-quality electrical assemblies in a controlled environment.
Just as importantly, information does not stop flowing once fabrication begins. Feedback from the shop and field informs future modeling standards, detailing practices, and constructability decisions.
The result is a continuous feedback loop between design, manufacturing, and installation.
By connecting these disciplines through IDM, we gain greater control over quality, schedule, and cost while creating processes that can be standardized and scaled across projects and markets.
Starting Earlier to Build Smarter
The earlier IDM becomes involved in a project, the greater the opportunity to influence the outcome.
Engaging our team during preconstruction and design development allows us to evaluate how systems will actually be built before construction documents are finalized.
This means identifying opportunities for prefabrication, resolving constructability concerns, and coordinating with other trades while there is still flexibility to make meaningful changes.
