What’s the most exciting innovation you’ve seen in electrical construction?
The rapid advancement of our prefabrication efforts has been incredibly exciting. Being part of a company that’s trailblazing in this space has been a great experience. It’s especially rewarding to see other trades react with surprise—and sometimes awe—at the level of prefabrication we’ve achieved. Their reactions reinforce the impact of our work and validate the success we’re seeing from our continued innovation.
What’s one project where BIM made a major difference?
I like to think BIM makes a major difference on every project we’re involved in. That said, a standout example would be the BUPAC project. There was a particularly complex “back-of-house” attic space with low ceilings, deep trusses consuming most of the overhead area, and a maze of conduit. Our VDC team was able to coordinate power racks through that structural maze and prefabricate them prior to installation. Even on a job of that size, the field team reported that the time saved by installing those prefabricated racks—rather than stick-building them under those conditions—justified the entire BIM budget.
What do you love most about working with the field teams?
The sheer amount of knowledge they’re willing to share. Electrical construction is such a large and complex industry that no one person can know everything. Being able to communicate with the field and learn about their tasks, guidelines, and the challenges they face helps me factor those realities into our design and coordination process. The lessons learned from our field teams—especially during post-project reviews—have been invaluable to the growth and development of both our department and our company as a whole.

What’s been your proudest moment in leading a fabrication team?
Honestly, my proudest moment has been slowly growing into the role of a leader. It didn’t happen overnight—it’s taken time, trust, and a lot of learning. Watching people grow, step up, and take pride in what we’re building together has been incredibly rewarding. What’s made it even more meaningful is seeing how my manufacturing and fabrication background has brought a different perspective to the shop—streamlining processes, introducing lean concepts, and helping us operate more efficiently as a team.
How do you see fabrication evolving in the future of electrical construction?
It’s already starting to shift. I think we’ll see more standardization, better integration with BIM, and smarter platforms that track productivity and quality in real time. The labor force is changing, and prefab is going to be a big part of how we meet demand while keeping standards high. It’s less about being a job shop and more about thinking like a manufacturer.
How does this company support innovation in fabrication?
We’ve got the freedom to try new things—whether that’s lean-focused changes, new tooling, or rethinking standards on how we build certain assemblies. There’s a willingness here to invest in the process, not just the product. Continuous improvement isn’t just a buzzword here; it’s part of the culture.

What does “Work Safe & Build Quality” mean to you in your role?
To me, Work Safe & Build Quality means safety comes before anything else. We all need to go home the same way we came in. Through planning, communication, and teamwork, we can overcome any challenge while still delivering quality work. It is about doing the job right and doing it safely every time.
What does your role involve in ensuring quality from installation through project completion?
My role involves working closely with field teams to make sure quality standards are met from start to finish. That includes reviewing specs, coordinating with general contractors and other trades, and making sure installations are done correctly the first time. I focus on catching issues early, minimizing rework, and making sure everything aligns with project requirements.
How does Enterprise support a culture of quality and continuous improvement on your projects?
Enterprise supports this culture by providing the right tools, equipment, technology, and leadership. The management and unity on this project have been strong, and that sets the tone for the entire team. Everyone feels comfortable asking questions and supporting each other. We take pride in our work and aim to keep consistency across the project, making each floor a mirror image of the last. At the end of the day, we operate like a family, and I take pride in being my brother’s keeper.

We operate as one team, always lifting each other up. Whether it’s collaborating on a complex project or finding creative solutions, we push each other to be better every day. That kind of support makes a huge difference.
What’s a project where you felt especially proud of your work?
The Retama underground project really stands out. It was a challenging job, but seeing everything come together and knowing I played a part in making it happen was incredibly rewarding.
How has technology changed the way you do your job?
Access to 3D models has been a game-changer. Being able to see exactly where and how things fit before installation has made the process more efficient and precise, cutting down on guesswork and rework.

How do you manage your crew to keep work on track while maintaining safety and quality?
I once heard the phrase “slow is smooth and smooth is fast,” and I believe that applies here. Keeping work on track starts with planning and understanding your priorities. You have to work your plan, identify hazards, and make sure employees are trained on tasks they may not be familiar with. I always encourage asking questions and explaining the “why” behind what we do. Safety and quality go together, and the goal is to always install work in a clean, professional manner.
How do you mentor and develop apprentices or less experienced electricians?
I focus on helping them understand what they are stepping into as electricians, including the dangers of electricity and how systems work. I teach them as the job progresses, whether it is electrical systems, lighting, or tools. I make sure they understand the reason behind the task so they are not just guessing. It is about building their skills, work ethic, and reliability, while also sharing my past experiences to help guide them.
What does your day-to-day role look like on a jobsite?
My day-to-day role is about taking things one step at a time and stepping back when needed to regroup. It includes adjusting old habits into better ones, communicating workflow with other trades, and making sure employees stay safe and productive. I focus on time management and staying aware of my surroundings at all times.

What drew you to a career in welding within electrical construction?
I was drawn to welding in the electrical construction field because it was something new within my chosen profession. It opened the door to projects I had never worked on before, brought an exciting change, and gave me the opportunity to do work that truly helps people.
How does teamwork play a role in your day-to-day work?
Teamwork plays a big role in my day-to-day work. I regularly collaborate with others to share ideas, solve problems, and make sure we’re all on the same page.
What advice would you give to someone considering welding as a career?
Welding is a great career with good pay and endless opportunities—if you develop the right skill set. It’s physically demanding, but at the end of the day, seeing what you’ve created is both rewarding and gratifying.
